Regional Managers (Supply Chain)

A leading global commodity merchant and sustainable supply chain management company, is seeking highly motivated, target-driven, innovative commercial managers with a track record of excellence in marketing, sales, distribution and fund management on a regional or national scale in Ghana or West Africa. The new cadre of Regional Managers (Supply Chain) will oversee the buying of cocoa as well as drive the sales of all farmer products and services.

Each Regional Manager (Supply Chain) will have oversight of approximately 6-7 districts, including a team of 12-14 franchise holders (both Cocoa, and Products and Services), approximately 100 purchasing clerks and 100 micro franchise holders. The Regional Managers (Supply Chain) report directly into profit centre General Managers. He or she will manage programmes for key clients. The Regional Manager (Supply Chain) is based in the field and travels frequently into the Districts as well as in and out of company’s Ghana Head Office in Kumasi.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Execute the buying of cocoa (and other commodities)

  • Ensure cocoa target volumes and quality parameters are met
  • Ensure zero outstanding cash with upcountry agents
  • Ensure well-coordinated internal controls and record keeping systems are in place

Drive the marketing and sales of the company’s products and services to farmers (bottom of the pyramid)

  • Ensure the volume, market share and profit growth of well established and new farmer-oriented products and services
  • Identify best partners and develop innovative distribution channels to market products and services to farmers
  • Develop effective ‘go to market’ (route to consumers at the bottom of the pyramid) strategies
  • Support brand development and co-ordinate promotion campaigns
  • Set and apply price and (re)payment policies

Business performance tracking including financial management and reporting

  • Manage P&L for the Region
  • Set and track sales budgets and forecasts
  • Set and track credit limits
  • Report on sales and recovery schedules

Customer relations

  • Competition price and sales policy
  • Competition Incentives
  • Competition promotion, campaigns and new products
  • Reporting

Innovation and technology development

  • Support the development and set up of mobile money, sales software and electronic inventories
  • Provide a feedback loop for new opportunities that support growth

Sustainability management services and training

  • Ensure all certifications are up to date and all audits passed successfully
  • Manage all sustainability projects for key clients (including chocolate makers and donors)

People management and development

  • Support the selection and on-boarding process of staff/franchise holders in the region
  • Ensure the company’s culture is being cultivated in the region
  • Co-ordinate the activities of all staff/franchise holders across the region, including managing performance, motivation and training requirements

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCES:

  • Essential: Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, marketing, sales, finance or another business related field. Desirable: MBA or Master’s degree in a related field
  • Minimum 10 years experience, including at least 4-5 years working in a proven commercial management position
  • Proven track record of developing and leading high performing marketing/sales teams at regional or national level, ideally with a multi-national or Blue Chip company
  • Knowledge and experience of the rural sector, farming communities, agribusiness products and distributional channels are an advantage
  • Robust, adaptable and able to deal with people at the grassroot level.
  • Entrepreneurial, innovative and bottom of the pyramid skill sets
  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Analytical with a good head for figures
  • Excellent verbal communication (English, Twi) and written communication including the ability to produce clear presentations and reports
  • Proficient in MS Office (including MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint)
  • Willing to be based and travel extensively across rural communities in Ghana

NOTE: Roles are based in the following regions: Ashanti, Eastern, Western and Brong Ahafo.
