Tax and Financial Accounting Manager

A leading player in the Banking and Finance Industry seeks to hire a trusted technical expert with respect to tax laws and regulations, IFRS/IAS policies and standards, for the role of a Tax and Financial Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate will support the Financial Controller in the effective management of the bank’s indirect and corporate income taxes to achieve target tax rates, as well as managing relationships with tax advisors, regulatory bodies, and regional office teams.

Key Responsibilities

Taxation (Time Split - 40%)

  • Responsible for the monthly computation of the Bank’s corporate income and deferred taxes and submission to the regional office on TaxPacc
  • Ensuring the timely preparation and filing and payment of monthly, quarterly and annual tax returns in accordance with regulation and Bank/Group policy
  • Effective maintenance of tax records/documentation in accordance with policy and regulation and ensuring completeness and timely retrieval of records on demand
  • Effective tax planning in consultation with the Bank’s Tax consultants to achieve and maintain a tax efficiency
  • Monitoring and management of the bank’s transfer pricing activities including identification of transfer pricing elated activities, maintenance of contemporaneous documentations, maintenance of a compendium of transfer pricing transactions, policy update and advising the business on transfer pricing implications of activities.
  • Management of the Bank’s indirect Taxes including, VAT, PAYE and WHT matters and ensuring accurate and timely submission of returns and payments.
  • Maintain accurate and complete accounting records and reconciliation of tax provisions and payments
  • Lead the coordination of Tax audits, health checks and conformance reviews by the Ghana Revenue Authority, internal assurance departments and other regulatory bodies
  • Own group tax policies and standards on behalf of the Financial Controller and ensure and monitor compliance within the Bank
  • Monitoring and timely reporting and escalation of existing or potential/emerging tax risk issues through the FD Attestation process, Tax Key Risk Assessment (KRA) and Tax Risk Reporting Tools (TRRT)
  • Maintenance of Tax related RCAs and leading the timely and effective closure of open tax issues
  • Provide tax advisory to the business with support from the Bank’s consultants including the review of contracts, participation in the NAPA process and monthly payroll support to HR

Financial Accounting (Time Split-25%)

  • Ensure efficient management of the bank’s fixed assets including accurate accounting for fixed assets, tracking and verification and reconciliation of physical assets to register and ledger.
  • Maintenance of models to calculate required inputs into financial statements (EIR, FV of staff loans, guarantees, SBP journals, IAS 19 journals, etc.)
  • Ensure the accurate and timely capturing of financial transactions into the General ledger in accordance with IFRS and Group Accounting Policies

Accounts Payable (Time Split-25%)

  • Provide leadership to the accounts payable team ensuring the efficient and effective running of the accounts payable process
  • Business and Tax reviewer for accounts payable transaction advising on the correct account coding and tax application of supplier payments
  • Maintenance and management of costs accruals and expense prepayments ensuring they are within business rules and Group Accounting policies
  • Ensure embedment and compliance with Group Expense and related policies and timely escalation of non-compliance
  • Assist the Finance Business Partner and Financial Controller with functional cost reporting

Team and Stakeholder Management (Time Split-10%)

  • Maintain and manage relationships with internal stakeholders including business/departmental heads, sourcing department and the regional tax team
  • Maintaining and manage relationships with external stakeholders including the Ghana Revenue Authority, Ghana Investment Promotion Council and the Bank’s Tax consultants
  • Support an empowering climate within the team, sharing knowledge, experience, and best practice and providing constructive feedback as required.

Preferred Essentials

  • Excellent knowledge of Ghana Tax laws, and Financial Services
  • Good knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards
  • At least a First degree from a recognized university, with at least 5 years’ working experience in the Banking industry, or comparable relevant work experience in a challenging business environment
  • A Professional Tax Certification from the CITG or other recognized professional body
  • A previous role in a tax advisory or management role in an operation/process intensive area will be an added advantage
  • Strong analytical skills, as well as a good understanding of the value of financial and non-financial Management Information and its uses
  • Ability to interact at very senior level
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to identify and solve complex business problems using appropriate techniques
